Wooden Paddles Piwke Coal

The design of this painted paddle represents the Piwke, meaning "Heart" in Mapuzugun. This innovative design is used by the Mapuche people in their fabrics.

Each of these objects goes through the meticulous Yakisugi process, where the wood is carefully burned, revealing its inherent beauty and highlighting the natural grain patterns.

About the Technique

Yakisugi, born in the heart of Japan, is a traditional method of wood burning that enhances its durability and beauty. This ancient technique involves carefully burning the surface of the wood, resulting in a unique and stunning appearance.

Originally used as a method to preserve and protect wooden structures from insects, rot, and fire, Yakisugi has evolved into a fascinating form of craftsmanship. The burning process not only improves the wood's natural resistance to decay but also creates impressive patterns and textures that evoke a sense of depth and character.

At Hualle, we have embraced this remarkable technique to bring our "Coal" series to life. Each piece in this collection undergoes the meticulous process of Yakisugi, where the wood is carefully burned, revealing its inherent beauty and highlighting the natural grain patterns. The result is a masterpiece that exudes timeless allure and a deep connection to nature.

Care Guide

We recommend locating the product in a place without direct sunlight and cleaning it with a dry cloth once a week. If possible, cover with Osmo wood finish wax in a transparent color every two years to perpetuate the resistance to dirt, prevent wear and tear and repel water.

We use natural water-based paints and varnishes, so we recommend the decorative use of our products. Submerging them for a long time in water could damage the paint and varnish.
