About the Inspiration

The design of this bench is inspired by the faces of the diverse cultures that have inhabited Chile, spanning from the southernmost to the northernmost regions of the country.

About the technique

This unique bench is crafted from reclaimed "Coigüe" wood by the skilled artisan Cristián Oñate, evidence of the exceptional talent of Chilean artisans.

Yakisugi, born in the heart of Japan, is a traditional method of wood burning that enhances its durability and beauty. This ancient technique involves carefully burning the surface of the wood, resulting in a unique and stunning appearance.

Originally used as a method to preserve and protect wooden structures from insects, rot, and fire, Yakisugi has evolved into a fascinating form of craftsmanship. The burning process not only improves the wood's natural resistance to decay but also creates impressive patterns and textures that evoke a sense of depth and character.

At Hualle, we have embraced this remarkable technique to bring our "Coal" series to life. Each piece in this collection undergoes the meticulous process of Yakisugi, where the wood is carefully burned, revealing its inherent beauty and highlighting the natural grain patterns. The result is a masterpiece that exudes timeless allure and a deep connection to nature.

This beautifully handcrafted bench is made from sustainably sourced “Coigüe” wood, native to the Villarrica region of La Araucanía, Chile. The bench measures 40 cm wide, 41 cm high, and 24 cm deep, making it the perfect size for a small space or as an accent piece.

Each table is unique and features the natural grain and beauty of the “Coigüe” wood.

Finished with 100% natural wax polish (own recipe from Hualle), which protects the wood and gives it a warm, lustrous shine.
